Day 53 - Success!

Laila's birthday party was a huge success!  Thank you to all our friends who came over and helped make Laila's birthday so special!  She had so much fun playing and eating outside with her buddies, being the center of attention, eating cupcakes and of course getting to open presents.

Day 52 - Thank goodness they sleep

I love my babies so much and I don't know what I would do without them but every night I look forward to their bedtime.  When quiet decends on the house and there is no one demanding to be held or needing help to go potty or crying because someone took their toy.  Yes bedtime is a good time and it keeps me sane. 

Tomorrow we are celebrating Laila's 2nd birthday!  So look forward to some fun pics!

Day 51 - The best day ever!

I never thought when I got the idea for a garden that it would be something my whole family would take part in.  If I don't have even one little vegetable come up I will still be so happy we did it!  This morning while Laila and I were at Church, Manik (my super sweet and thoughtful husband!) put the last few screws in the garden frame.  I was so happy to see it ready to go and complete when I got home, I tell ya the little things always get me! 

It has become our Sunday tradition to go to our favorite family mexican restaurant, Los Amigos.  Los Amigos is fantastic, if you have never been there it is located at 36th and MacArthur.  The food is authentic and delicious every time!  It is family owned and on Sunday the whole family comes in and works, even the kids.  They are so friendly and we always enjoy ourselves.

I was itching to get some dirt in my garden so while Laila napped and Manik took Arjun to a bb game Jai and I dug up the soil plot for our garden.  Mostly I dug, and Jai just practiced his walking skills, which I might add are coming along nicely. 

After Manik returned he and Arjun inspected my work and we finished the digging and put the garden frame in place!  I was getting super pumped and decided to make the most of the day and go buy the rest of the soil needed.  Thank goodness I took Arjun with me, we loaded up our cart with 30 cubic feet of compost, potting soil, cow manure compost (we have both Texas and Florida cow shit in our garden, just in case you were curious, it made AJ and I laugh at least) and top soil.  My car was so low to the ground I drove home with my hazard lights on, afraid I was going to ruin the suspension in my car!

Once home we dumped all of our beautiful soil in the garden bed (with Jai's "help") and VOILA PRESTO...the garden was ready!  Arjun and planted the peas and we were done!! 

Throughout the the whole process my whole family was involved one way or another.  Arjun was a huge helpwithout having to be asked, my husband used powertools (a true sign that he loves me), Jai fell in love with dirt and throwing it up in the air and Laila watched from a safe distance so as to not get dirty, but completely intruiged with everything going on around her.  I could not be more happy to have my whole family helping a wish of mine come true.  I am so truly blessed and thankful.

Day 50 - Building the garden bed

How many drills does it take to build a garden frame??? Anyone? Anyone?  The answer is three! 

This morning Manik, Laila and I went to Lowes to get our building supplies.  I have a whole new respect for handymen and home builders!  I thought the whole trip would take us about forty five minutes, um yeah, two hours later we finally mosied on out of there with our goods!

After a bite to eat and putting one baby down, and another waking up we headed outside to start our project.  We started strong but soon our drill gave out.  Manik headed next door to our neighbor Ed to to borrow another drill.  Well that didn't turn out well either, the drill was about as old as our neighbor Ed.  After about three minutes it was smoking!  Again Manik ventured out for another drill, again this time to Ace Hardware!

He came home with a new drill and we went at again, but weren't able to get much done with the kiddos running around and dinner needing to be made.

Day 49 - Sweet moments of the day

This morning while Manik and I were getting ready Laila and Jai found an old radio I had in our room.  They got to playing with it and for some reason Jai got upset.  This picture is of Laila telling Jai "don't worry Jai Jai, your ok".  I just love those tender sweet moments that happen between the two of them, sweet babies!

Wanted to get a pic of the Jai in his new car seat and of course, it never hurts to see our babies and one teenager in one place together!  I just love all those little sweet faces!

Arjun and I finally figured out how to get Laila to smile for the camera!  The magic word is "ME".  Amazingly I caught this pic of her smiling and looking at the camera!  A first for both!

Our friend Liz and her baby, Cain and Jai Jai and Manik.  Cain is five months old and weighs 20lbs, we thought it was funny to put the two together because they weigh about the same and are equally cute!

To top off the night at Jason's, Jai decided to have a shot of vodka to top the night off! 

Plans for tomorrow...Manik and I are planning on building our garden frame. Wish us luck!  I will post pictures tomorrow of our progress!!

Day 48 - Seeds and Big Boy Carseat have been purchased!

I am sooo excited!  Today Jai and I stopped by Horns Seed Co. to get some expert advice on my garden.  If you have never been to Horns it is awesome, very old school.  The guy who was helping me looks like he just stepped off his farm, overalls and all!  I didn't catch his name but I will call him Farmer Joe.  Just by looking at Farmer Joe you could tell this guy know what he is talking about.  Farmer Joe said I was on the right track using cedar to build my frame but I am a bit late for my starting my sugar snap peas.  When I asked him when I should plant them he replied, "um last week would have been good".  Farmer Joe got me on the right start with some squash, sugar snap peas and zucchini seeds.  So it looks like my weekend project will be to get the garden going!

On another note we purchased Jai's big boy car seat today!  I am so excited to get him out of the infant carrier.  He is way to big for it!  Once we got home and I had all the car seats out on the grass and it kept Laila and Jai busy for a good 30 minutes.  Jai was very busy climbing all over the infant carrier base.  He was in every possible position imaginable!  Laila was also very busy putting Baby in/out of the car seat!  I tell ya it is always the most simple thing they love the most!

Day 47 - Birthday shirt and the dogs water bowl

Well Missy Mae is turning two soon and I am so excited for her!  She is now more aware and understands what birthday parties are all about.  We have gone to a few of her friends b-day parties and she get soooo excited!  She will talk about so and so's party all day and then we get to the party and she freezes.  You would think by looking at her that we dragged her to it!  She gets some serious deer in the headlights look.  After a few minutes of taking in the situation and sizing everyone up she relaxes and settles in for a good time, thank goodness.

We are doing a very small party this year, just family and our good friend Tim.  The theme is Strawberry Shortcake.  Of course Laila has no idea who that is, but I love Miss Shortcake so there you go!  I really wanted to get her a cute shirt for her birthday party, but I put it off too long so decided to just make one.  So while the kiddos were napping this afternoon I made her shirt, I love the way it turned out!

This afternoon while Laila was napping Jai had some time to investigate the backyard deck and all the fun things it holds!  First he quickly made his way over to the dogs water bowl (always a big hit) and then to Saahib's tennis balls.  Now he was really a happy little boy, Saahib was a little put out and didn't quite appreciate the fact that the little boy who lives in his house wouldn't throw the ball, but rather would hold them really close and try to chew on them.

 So here is an adorable sequence of events I caught on my phone of Jai trying to "drink" the dogs water bowl.  Needless to say he ended up soaked and sooo dirty but he enjoyed every minute of it!
